You might see more of a familiar face at our Doggie Day Camp. Day Camp counselor, Missy, is stepping into a new role as Day Camp director and our current Day Camp director, Dawn, will be shifting her focus to help develop and build some exciting new programs for Pampered Pets over the coming months! Stay tuned for more news about this effort and read below to get to know Missy.
Missy’s animal-focused career didn’t start at Pampered Pets. She has more than twenty years of professional experience working with animals and a lifetime of loving and caring for them. At a very early age, Missy’s parents instilled in her a love of animals and that love has played a huge role in shaping her life. Over the years, she has shared her home with many different pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits. Currently she lives with three cats and two dogs, and couldn’t imagine life without a furry companion. Missy also has a two-legged son of the human variety, Gary, whom is her pride and joy.
At the age of fourteen, Missy started working at a dog and cat boarding facility where she learned the importance of having high standards and settling for nothing less. After eleven years in the boarding business, she decided to broaden her pet care experience. Since then, she has been an Animal Control Officer for Albemarle County, worked at a pet food store and was an Adoption Counselor at the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA. Missy continues to work at the SPCA part time. In her spare time she also volunteers to help animals, working to reunite lost pets with their families through a Facebook page that she created to serve the Charlottesville/Albemarle area. Reuniting people with their lost loved ones brings Missy lots of joy.
Missy joined the Pampered Pets team as a Day Camp Counselor in the summer of 2015 and since has thoroughly enjoyed building relationships with the many dogs that we see on a regular basis. There are so many personalities that every day is different and fun in its own way. We are absolutely thrilled that she accepted the position of Day Camp Director. As Director, Missy will continue to uphold the high standards that make our Day Camp so special. She knows that she has big shoes to fill, but we know she’s up for the challenge!
